Union of Kydonia is a graduation project for an expansion to World of Warcraft which references from a real-life story of a region in Ayvalık, Turkey. Logo, stories, quests, concept development, NPC designs, icons, weapons, maps, mount, and other design instruments are based on geographical, social, and cultural aspects of Ayvalık’s recent history. Values such as fishing and growing olive trees as well as stories are inspired from local resident’s daily habits, lifestyle and even their clothes both from the past and the present. Although, the idea of designing an expansion is based on real-life location following Ayvalık’s values and its properties, visual language of the game is preserved in every design product.
